Tabla
is today the most important percussion instrument, it
is called the kink under the percussion instruments. The
Tabla consists of 2 drums which always are played together:
the small wooden one has the shape of a cylinder, is namend
"Tabla" or "Dayan" and is to be played
with the right hand. The metal one (usually in copper
or brass and chrom coated) is shaped like a bass drum
and actually the bass sound is played on it. This is named
the "Bayan" or "Dagga" On the Bayan
the metric system is given, on the tabla all the variety
of tablavariations are played. The Tabla is not limited
in being a instrument only for acompaniment. In differentiated
soloplay the whole scope and beauty of this instrument
come up and show the superior scope of this instrument.
Playing on the Tabla demands the learning of an syllable
system which could be compared with the notation one has
to learn if one wants to play an instrument. This syllables
can be pronounced or/and played on the Tabla. There is
a big variety if rhythmical figures and compositions available.
Beside the fixed compositions there is also a scope of
improvisation. All this results in the most beautiful
sound of the Tabla which may give us the impression to
lissen to the archaic music of the drums. Thats because
Tabla is the most significant drum in the world which
is a fully-fledged soloinstrument and which ist not only
in the shadow of an accomaniment instrument.

In
the indian musictradition human voice is the primordial
musical expression of man. On the basis of the human voice
the whole spectrum of instrumental music was developed.
All of the differentiated sounds of the instruments can
be expressed also through human voice. This means, that,
different to the tradition in the western world, a singer
does not depend on fixed melodies and texts. Through a
special system he is able to improvise on singing the
same as a instrument can do. So he is in the position
to leave the fixed struktures and follow his own creative
impulses. TARANG offers primarily a classical education
in vocal. On demand its also posible to get teaching in
Bajans and in light classical music. On our homepage you
will not find any further information on this subject.
If you are interested to get vocal lessons, please contact

Under
the classical dances in India KATHAK is the most ancient
and popular stile of dance. In ancient times Kathak was
a kind of telling storys. In addidtion of course it was
also a spiritual discipline. Kathak does not only focus
on the technical aspect (Nritt) of classical cance. It
also gives to the dancer a big scope of freedom for improvisation.
This fusion together with the unbelievable richness of
beautiful expressions of hands, feets and the whole body
makes Kathak so unic under the classical dances.
iIn
addition to the classical disciplin Tarang offers also
classes in Bollywood Dance on a higher approach which
consist mainly in classical styles.
